TSG 1899 Hoffenheim crashes out on Wednesday in the second round of the DFB-Pokal!

Head coach Christian Ilzer's team has to go to a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw against Holstein Kiel, where the "Storks" prevail 4-3.

Initially, everything goes according to plan for TSG. Hlozek volleys the ball into the net from the penalty spot (11'), then Lemperle seemingly scores for 2-0 (22'). However, his goal is disallowed due to an offside position.

Immediately after the disallowed goal, Kiel scores the equalizer: After a great dribble by Sekine, Kapralik places the ball into the far corner (23').

Tight match ends in a penalty shootout

Shortly before halftime, goalkeeper Philipp saves TSG from going 1-2 down, as he makes a foot save in a one-on-one with Harres (45').

After the restart, Asllani hits the post following a Prass corner (56'). In the final phase of regular time, Philipp saves against Davidsen (81').

In extra time, both teams find decent chances to score the winning goal, but neither Bernardo (100') and Kramaric (111') nor Kvilitaia (104') and Harres (120') manage to score.

It goes to a penalty shootout, in which Kiel's Kvilitaia misses right away as the first shooter. For the Sinsheimers, Avdullahu misses as the third shooter.

After that, Kiel scores, and Austrian international Alexander Prass, who was on the field for the full duration, is also successful. TSG defender Rots' missed penalty ultimately brings the decision and allows Holstein Kiel to celebrate advancing to the round of 16.

Leverkusen dispatches Klose's Nürnberg despite early shock

Bayer Leverkusen overcomes an early shock against 1. FC Nürnberg and wins 5-2.

The Franconians, with Miroslav Klose on the coaching bench, are already 2-0 up after goals from Lubach (13') and Haugen (30'). Former Sturm attacker Böving assists both goals.

Shortly before halftime, the Werkself pulls one back through Tapsoba (41'), and after the break, the defender equalizes the score (49'). A penalty leads to 3-2 through Schick (70'), after which Hofmann (78') and Vazquez (89') seal the victory.
