Winter exit? Austrian international facing the axe at Bundesliga club
For an Austrian international, the chapter at Borussia Mönchengladbach could close prematurely this winter. A departure is reportedly nearing.
Kevin Stöger is reportedly on the verge of leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach!
As German transfer insider Florian Plettenberg reports via "X", Stöger could leave the club this winter due to his lack of playing time. The winter transfer window opens on January 1, 2027.
Contract set to expire
The 33-year-old has been under contract with the "Foals" since 2024, but the contract of the Wels-born player expires at the end of the season.
Crucially: Stöger's contract includes a clause stating that the term would automatically extend by another year if the Austrian features in at least 17 Bundesliga matches.
Sidelined under Blessin
This may also be why Stöger has recently been overlooked by new coach Alexander Blessin. The 33-year-old has only played three of eight possible season matches, and under Blessin, the Austrian has not seen a single minute of action in the Bundesliga.
Without the five-time Austrian international, the "Foals" recently pulled themselves out of a tight spot somewhat, being unbeaten in their last three competitive matches. However, due to their disastrous start to the season, Gladbach remains at the bottom of the German Bundesliga.
