Historic English Club Parts Ways with Manager
West Ham United takes drastic action after a mixed start to the season, parting ways with the Portuguese coach. A club legend takes over for now.
Historic English club West Ham United has parted ways with manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
The "Hammers" announced this on social media on Tuesday.
Promotion in Jeopardy
The Portuguese took over at West Ham in September 2025 and was relegated to the EFL Championship with the London club. The goal of immediate re-promotion is now in jeopardy, which is why the club is taking drastic action.
"Following a thorough analysis of the start of the season in the EFL Championship, the Board has come to the conviction that a change is necessary at this time to ensure that the club's goals and expectations continue to be met," the club wrote.
With 22 points from 13 games, the London club sits in eighth place in the EFL Championship. Espirito Santo was on the sidelines for West Ham 53 times, achieving an average of 1.38 points per game.
Noble Takes Interim Charge
The search for a successor for the 52-year-old and his coaching staff, who are also leaving the club, is already underway.
Mark Noble, Steve Potts, and Gerard Penderville will temporarily take charge of the team for the match against Cardiff City.
"The club will not comment further until the official confirmation of the new head coach's appointment," the "Hammers" announced.
Noble himself made 550 appearances for the "Hammers" between 2005 and 2022 and was a long-serving captain of the team.
