"Wouldn't Say No" - Will an Ex-United Coach Succeed Carrick?
Michael Carrick is facing the exit as head coach of the "Red Devils". Of all people, a former teammate could imagine taking over.
Manchester United is once again in a sporting crisis!
Today, Tuesday, the "Red Devils" face AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League (21:00 in the LIVE ticker).
United are winless in nine competitive matches across all competitions. Another defeat could mean the final exit for the embattled coach Michael Carrick.
Solskjaer puts himself forward
Rumours are already circulating as to who could take over the coaching position at the English record champions, with high-profile names like Unai Emery or Julian Nagelsmann being discussed.
However, an old acquaintance is now also putting himself forward at the "Red Devils". Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was already United coach between 2018 and 2021, and the 53-year-old could certainly imagine another spell.
"If Michael [...] stops, and they ask me if I can take over for two months, I certainly wouldn't say no," says the former striker to Norwegian broadcaster TV2.
Solskjaer initially stepped in as an interim solution in 2018 after Jose Mourinho was sacked, before the club decided to permanently appoint the Norwegian.
Carrick and Solskjaer know each other well
Incidentally, the two United legends share a common past:
In the 2006/07 season, Solskjaer and Carrick played together for one season at the "Red Devils", after which the Norwegian ended his active professional career.
From 2018 to 2021, Carrick was also Solskjaer's assistant coach in 168 games.
