Former Salzburg Player a Folk Hero: "I can't enjoy it"
In his home country, the former Salzburg striker can hardly go out on the street anymore, such is the extent of his celebrity.
Patson Daka (27) from Zambia made a name for himself in the jersey of FC Red Bull Salzburg.
In 2020/21, he became top scorer of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga with 27 goals. Leicester City then paid 30 million Euros for him.
The striker has recently been wearing the HSV jersey, but he is particularly popular in his home country.
No Private Life in Zambia
"It's quite difficult to show myself on the street in my home country. I can't enjoy it. It's actually sad to say, but I no longer have a private life there," Daka is quoted by the "Hamburger Abendblatt".
However, he understands the hype surrounding him. "As a young person, I wanted to meet players I looked up to myself. The kids have the right to dream," said the 27-time Zambia international.
Dream Debut at HSV
At HSV, he introduced himself more than adequately. In the 3-1 victory over Heidenheim, he won a penalty in 28 minutes, set up a goal, and scored one himself.
Daka has no reason to regret his decision to join HSV. He had previously inquired about Hamburg with his former Salzburg teammates Hee-Chan Hwang and Masaya Okugawa. "Everything I learned was far beyond my imagination," said Daka.
Now he wants to stay in Hamburg for as long as possible. His contract is for one year, but there is an option for an extension.
