Romano Schmid was long considered a hot candidate to leave Werder Bremen in the summer, with his contract only running until 2027.

However, the signs have now changed. There are hardly any transfer rumors circulating around the Styrian. The second-longest serving player in the squad (since January 2019) behind Marco Friedl is likely to remain in Bremen beyond the summer.

Werder Pushes for Talks

However, Werder wants to keep the 26-year-old at the club for even longer. According to "Bild," the club wants to convince Schmid to extend his contract with a "million-euro offer."

Head of Professional Football Peter Niemeyer states: "Of course, it is our endeavor not to let a player like Romano leave on a free transfer. We are in discussions and will certainly make the talks about a possible extension concrete soon. We can very well imagine continuing with him."
