Neuer announces: He's retiring after this season
This will, in all likelihood, be the final season Manuel Neuer plays as a professional footballer. The Bayern goalkeeper has now confirmed this himself.
"It strongly looks like I'm going to stop," Manuel Neuer explained to "BILD".
The 40-year-old goalkeeper is entering his 16th season with FC Bayern Munich. In all likelihood, it will also be his last.
In May, Neuer had extended his expiring contract until summer 2027. With 545 appearances, he ranks sixth among Bundesliga record players.
With Bayern, he won, among others, 13 German championships, six DFB-Pokals, and the Champions League twice. He also became a world champion in 2014.
"I don't play to say: This is now my last game"
However, the thought that this will likely be his last season doesn't play a big role for him.
"I don't play the games to say: This is now my last game – regardless of whether I might have been in one stadium or another for the last time," Neuer said.
