Neuer forced off injured: Kimmich fears "something serious"
The Bayern goalkeeper had to be substituted before half-time against Mainz. A diagnosis is still pending.
Bayern's 2-1 away victory over FSV Mainz 05 ended on a bitter note for Manuel Neuer!
The goalkeeper was forced off due to injury just moments before the half-time break. Once again, it involves his right foot, which was already injured recently.
After the final whistle, sporting director Eberl gave an initial update in a Sky interview: "It's the issue he already had with his foot before. It has flared up again," he explained, adding: "We hope it's not too bad."
Kimmich doesn't expect a quick comeback
Teammate Kimmich, on the other hand, holds out little hope for a quick comeback for the 40-year-old. "It didn't look like he'd be able to train again after a week. Manu doesn't usually admit to pain anyway. So if he actually comes off, it's unfortunately likely to be something serious," he said.
For the team, the setback is "of course extremely bitter."
An exact diagnosis has not yet been established, but further tests are expected to follow soon.
