Criticism from Legend: Kane Not a Favourite for Ballon d'Or?
A World Cup winner criticizes Harry Kane's World Cup performances and excludes him from the favourites for the award.
France legend Emmanuel Petit does not count Harry Kane among the favourites for the Ballon d'Or. According to the World Cup winner, other players have impressed him more.
"Harry completely disappeared against PSG in the semi-final second leg. He could have done more. That's a shame after such an outstanding season. The same applies to the World Cup: He started very strongly, but from the quarter-finals onwards, he gave the impression that he lacked both the necessary strength and the necessary luck," Petit told "Sport1".
Nevertheless, Petit sees no one as a clear favourite for the award.
Record Season for the Englishman
Kane scored 72 goals in 62 games in the 2025/26 season. Only Lionel Messi scored more, with 82 goals in 2011/12.
He won the double with Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old reached the semi-finals in both the Champions League and the World Cup.
