Superstar Neymar caused a stir after Santos' narrow 1-0 victory in the Cup Round of 16 against Club do Remo.
After the final whistle, the 34-year-old first engaged in a loud verbal altercation with officials and fans of the opposing club. He then repeatedly tapped the crest on his jersey and provocatively danced in front of the opponent's supporters.
The scenes drew strong criticism. "Santos doesn't need that. And this jerk Neymar, who is idolized by a horde of children, behaved like a clown and then provoked us too. We are to blame ourselves for idolizing types like him," fumed the president of opposing Club do Remo.
Sportingly, Neymar played a significant part in Santos' progression. The attacking star was substituted on at halftime and set up the decisive goal for the 1-0 victory.
