Also thanks to Wöber: Dzeko's stay at Schalke is becoming apparent

Only recently, it was still questionable whether an extension for the Bosnian at Muslic's club would be feasible at all.

Edin Dzeko's stay at FC Schalke 04 is becoming increasingly likely.

Last winter, the Bosnian veteran moved to Miron Muslic's club, but his contract expired at the end of the season.

Schalke has reportedly long wanted to go into the Bundesliga with the 40-year-old. However, the major sticking point was his salary.

Why Wöber Might Play a Role

As Sporting Director Frank Baumann explained to "Sky" on Thursday, they are in talks with Dzeko. However, it concerns contractual matters. "I cannot estimate whether we will come together and reach an agreement at the end of the day, or not. Both are still possible."

As "Sky" reporter and Schalke insider Dirk große Schlarmann reports, a lot has now changed: "Currently, I would assume that there's an 80, perhaps even 90 percent chance that the Dzeko deal with Schalke can go through in the coming days."

This could also be related to the signing of Maximilian Wöber. The ÖFB defender arrived on a free transfer – and is said to be significantly cheaper overall than other candidates. This would now create greater financial leeway for Dzeko's extension.
