Top Salary Awaits: Muslic's Club Wants to Extend with Star Striker
Schalke 04 Sporting Director Frank Baumann is even said to have traveled to Croatia to convince the star striker.
The contractual relationship between Bosnian World Cup participant Edin Dzeko and Miro Muslic's club ended at the close of the season, and since then, the club has been striving for an extension with the star attacker.
Visit to Croatia
According to "Sport Bild" information, Schalke's Sporting Director Frank Baumann has already traveled to Dzeko's holiday residence in Croatia to convince the goalscorer to extend his contract.
Dzeko is said to have expressed his interest in a contract extension to Baumann. Should he sign, the Bosnian would join the ranks of the top earners.
The six-time goal scorer is expected to receive a basic salary of 900,000 Euros at the "Knappen" (Schalke). Performance-related bonuses could significantly push his annual income past the 1-million-Euro mark.
Now the ball is in the veteran's court, although he wishes to take until early August to make a decision. Should the "Königsblauen" (Schalke) find an adequate replacement for the striker by then, Dzeko is to be informed immediately to expedite the decision.
Doubts Due to Injuries
"Sky" reported on Monday that there are still doubts about an extension for the top striker. The reason is said to be his susceptibility to injury.
Furthermore, the new salary would far exceed the old one, as the Bosnian is said to have waived a portion of his salary in winter.
One factor that could play into Schalke 04's hands is the signing of Robin Gosens. The former German international is friends with Dzeko and would wish to share a locker room with the striker for a third time, after Milan and Florence.
