Things are currently still not going well at all for FC Schalke 04.

The Gelsenkirchen side fell to a 2-1 defeat against TSG Hoffenheim on matchday nine of the Bundesliga. Miron Muslic's team put in a very committed performance, but lacked luck in front of goal.

The game got off to the worst possible start for Schalke. Loris Karius tried to play out from the back, but Fisnik Asllani intercepted and blocked the ball into the net to open the scoring (10').

Former Austria Wien player Asllani was then directly involved in the second goal, setting up Tim Lemperle with a fine pass, who slotted home to make it 2-0 (26').

Adamu goal comes too late

After that, Schalke worked their way into the game more and more. Muslic's side reached dangerous positions in front of goal several times, but the ball just wouldn't go in.

Alexander Prass, who played the full 90 minutes, then thought he had made it 3-0 for Hoffenheim, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Miron Muslic threw everything forward after that, bringing on Junior Adamu among others (70'). The Austrian quickly had a huge chance, but his effort was cleared off the line just in time.

A little later, Adamu made no mistake. Following a corner, the ÖFB international was in the right place to tap home and pull one back (81'). However, the goal came too late, as Hoffenheim held on for the win.

Even though Schalke – where Dejan Ljubicic was substituted in the 79th minute – scored their first goal in over 500 minutes, a third consecutive defeat leaves them stuck in 17th place. Christian Ilzer's Hoffenheim, on the other hand, jump up to ninth place.
