Muslic's Schalke Loses Against Mainz 05
Schalke 04 and Miron Muslic continue to wait for their first win of the season in their home Veltins-Arena after the defeat against Mainz.
On Matchday 6 of the German Bundesliga, Muslic's Schalke loses to Mainz 05 with a score of 0:1.
The match started with a double chance for Mainz. After just 22 seconds, Becker appeared alone in front of Karius, but the keeper made a strong save. Only 30 seconds later, Becker broke through on the left again, but this time too, he was only second best and failed against Karius.
From the start, Mainz were the more active and aggressive team. Schalke couldn't find their usual rhythm and also appeared too erratic and open when playing against the ball.
Tietz Puts Mainz 05 Ahead
Caci delivered a sharp cross to the near post. Tietz made a superb run, got to the ball ahead of Katic, and beat Karius (24'). The 1-0 is already the striker's fifth goal of the season.
Karius has been the man of the match so far. Tietz once again appeared in Schalke's penalty area and fired a shot towards the bottom left corner, but the German keeper dived and was able to defuse the shot (34').
The game meandered for a long time, with neither team creating any real clear-cut chances.
However, the double substitution of Wöber and Adamu in the 71st minute injected new momentum into the game. Schalke then had their first real big chance in the 74th minute. After a throw-in, Tanaka got a shot away, but Schwolow made a strong save.
Despite a period of pressure in the final quarter-hour, the Royal Blues couldn't find an equalizer, and the score remained 1-0 for Mainz.
For Mainz, Posch and Mwene played the full match and both delivered strong performances. Mainz climbs to fifth place with this result, while Schalke is currently 14th.
Union and Dortmund Share the Spoils
In the match between Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund, there was no winner in a goalless 0-0 draw.
For Union, Querfeld remained on the bench without an appearance, while Trimmel was substituted in the 76th minute. Sabitzer was not brought on for Dortmund. Although Dortmund had two half-chances in the second half through Beier and Guirassy, they were far from securing a win this afternoon.
Nevertheless, Dortmund remains in first place for now, while Union Berlin is currently in 16th position.
