Former Leipzig Star Striker Signs in France
Juventus Turin currently has no use for Loïs Openda. The striker will now be loaned out.
Striker Loïs Openda returns to the French Ligue 1.
As reported on Tuesday, the 26-year-old Belgian will be loaned from Juventus Turin to Olympique Lyon. As confirmed by the French club, a loan fee of 3.5 million euros will be due.
No Future in Turin
Openda only moved to Turin this summer for a compulsory purchase fee of 42.75 million euros; prior to that, the attacker was on loan from RB Leipzig.
However, Openda is not expected to play a major role under coach Luciano Spalletti in Turin, which is why the Belgian was immediately loaned out again. In 34 games last season, Openda only managed two goals.
Once a Top Goalscorer in Leipzig and Lens
Openda was significantly more successful at his previous club in Leipzig. For the "Red Bulls", he scored 41 goals in 93 competitive matches. In the 2023/24 season, he was third on the Bundesliga top scorers list with 24 goals.
France is not a new destination for Openda. In the 2022/23 season, as a teammate of Kevin Danso at RC Lens, he was one of the top scorers in Ligue 1, netting 21 goals in that season.
