Man City defender Gvardiol makes decision on future

Joško Gvardiol will remain with Manchester City for the coming years.

As the English runners-up announced on Tuesday, the Croatian international has prematurely extended his contract, which was originally set to run until 2028. According to media reports, the 24-year-old is now tied to the "Skyblues" until 2031 and will also receive a significant salary increase.

Gvardiol ends transfer speculation

With the signing, speculation about a possible summer transfer is also off the table. Gvardiol had recently been linked with, among others,  Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Instead, he clearly commits to Manchester City, where he is considered one of the key players under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Gvardiol moved from RB Leipzig to Manchester City in the summer of 2023 for around 90 million euros. Since then, the defender has played 122 competitive matches, scoring 13 goals and assisting ten others.

He also won the Premier League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and the Club World Cup with the "Citizens."

Last season sidelined with tibia fracture

However, last season did not go as planned for the Croatian. Due to a tibia fracture, he only made 25 competitive appearances.

Nevertheless, Gvardiol returned in time for the World Cup and played the full 90 minutes in every match until Croatia's elimination in the Round of 16.
