Chelsea sign 42-cap England international
Manager Xabi Alonso has found the experienced reinforcement he was looking for.
Chelsea announced the signing of Danny Welbeck on Saturday.
The 35-year-old striker moves from Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion to the "Blues" and receives a contract until 2028.
"When you hear of Chelsea's interest, it fills you with great pride," says Welbeck. "I already know some of the lads and have had fantastic conversations with the manager."
Xabi Alonso wants experience
New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso made no secret of his desire to bolster the squad with experienced players this summer. Welbeck undoubtedly falls into this category.
The 35-year-old has played for Brighton since 2020. In 201 games for the "Seagulls", he was involved in 69 goals. Before his time at Brighton, the 42-cap England international played for Manchester United and Arsenal, among others.
