United Coach Carrick Demands More Transfers
The former player is heading into his first full season as Manchester United manager. But he still sees potential for improvement in the squad.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has called for further signings!
This summer, the club has spent significantly less money on new players than its main rivals in the Premier League.
United has spent around 100 million euros on three players during the transfer window – midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, as well as goalkeeper Karl Darlow. At the same time, Marcus Rashford returned from his loan spell at FC Barcelona.
Carrick Wants More
For Carrick, who is heading into his first full season as United manager and will lead his team in the Champions League, that is not enough.
"I think we've done very well and brought in some top players. We're very happy with that. We always want to improve," Carrick said. "We want more, we need more, we are constantly looking for ways to achieve that."
Rivals Invest Heavily
Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham have each spent over 115 million euros on individual players: Morgan Rogers, Elliot Anderson, and Sandro Tonali. Chelsea's spending on new players has even exceeded 400 million euros.
"Certainly, the situation is what it is, be it financially or otherwise," Carrick added, referring to the situation at United. "At the moment, we have to make the most of it, but we have to keep pushing and exploring all limits to be able to win again."
Rashford's Return
Rashford returned to United this week after the World Cup, after Barcelona did not exercise the buy option for the English winger following his loan spell.
When directly asked if Rashford was for sale, Carrick said: "He is our player, and he is a good player who gives us something special in the group."
United, record holders with 20 English league titles, last won the Premier League in 2013.
