After Third-Tier Relegation: Leicester City Up For Sale
The "Foxes" have endured two bitter years. Now the club could be sold for over 200 million Euros.
English historic club Leicester City is reportedly up for sale.
The "BBC" reports this. According to the report, the Thai owners have commissioned a US investment bank to assist in the search for a new owner.
The club, which has plummeted from Premier League champions to the third tier within a few years, is estimated to be worth around 200 million pounds (approximately 234 million Euros).
Rise and Premier League Title
The duty-free company King Power, led by the Srivaddhanaprabha family, had taken over Leicester as a second-tier club in 2010 for 35 million pounds.
Just six years later, the club made football history: Led by Jamie Vardy, former Austrian national team captain Christian Fuchs, and German central defender Robert Huth, the "Foxes" sensationally stormed to the Premier League title as huge outsiders.
In 2019, club owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha died in a helicopter crash. His son Aiyawatt subsequently took over the chairmanship. Two years later, another highlight followed with winning the FA Cup.
Financial Difficulties
After that, however, Leicester increasingly ran into financial difficulties. The Corona pandemic and falling revenues led to the owners investing less in the club.
After the first relegation, immediate promotion was achieved, but after two turbulent years, the next relegation followed – this time to League One.
