Setback in the fight for a spot: Danso sees red after error
A bitter friendly for Kevin Danso: Just three minutes after being substituted on, the Austrian international already sees the red card.
Austrian international Kevin Danso experiences a friendly to forget on Saturday!
The centre-back is substituted at halftime in Tottenham's friendly in Sydney against Chelsea and gets a chance to show what he can do.
But just three minutes after his substitution, the Austrian makes a costly error. Instead of controlling the ball, he lets it run past him.
João Pedro gets in between, Danso can only stop the Brazilian with a last-man foul and is shown the red card for it.
Fierce competition for places at Tottenham
For the 27-year-old, this is a severe setback.
Following the signings of Jan Paul van Hecke and World Cup finalist Marcos Senesi, Tottenham currently has five centre-backs in its squad with Micky van de Ven, captain Cristian Romero, and Danso. The competition for places is consequently high.
Captain Romero could still leave the club. These clubs are showing interest >>>
Tottenham still wins the friendly despite Danso's gaffe. Richarlison scores the decisive goal to make it 2-1 in the 92nd minute.
Previously, Tonali (17th) scored for Tottenham and Estevao for Chelsea (21st).
