Inter Miami only manages a 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew in the MLS on Lionel Messi's return after the World Cup.

The hosts get off to a dream start. Luis Suarez puts Miami ahead early with a spectacular goal from around 35 meters. Andre Gomes carelessly loses the ball, Suarez realizes that the opposing goalkeeper is far off his line, and coolly lobs the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Inter Miami remains the dominant team thereafter. Nevertheless, the visitors get back into the game: new signing Casemiro scores an own goal, which gives Columbus the equalizer.

Miami Extends Lead

Shortly before halftime, Miami restores their lead. After a cross from Suarez, Allen heads in to make it 2-1 (45').

After the break, Lionel Messi returns to the pitch for the first time since the narrowly lost World Cup final. The Argentine is substituted on in the 53rd minute for Daniel Pinter.

Just three minutes later, Messi almost makes an impact. However, his volley just misses the goal.

Columbus Fights Back

Columbus does not give up and still manages to equalize in the final phase. Brais Méndez scores from a free-kick to make it 2-2 (84').

In injury time, Messi had two more chances to win the game, one with his foot and one with his head. First, he fails with a header, and shortly after, a shot from a half-left position also misses its target. Thus, the match ends in a 2-2 draw.

Lewandowski Scores, Fitz Benched

In Chicago, Robert Lewandowski opens his scoring account. The Pole scores both goals in Chicago Fire's 2-1 victory over Charlotte FC, thus becoming the match-winner.

The matchday is less successful for Dominik Fitz. The former Austria Wien player and Minnesota United only manage a 1-1 draw. Fitz remains on the bench for the entire match, still waiting for his second appearance of the season.
