Manchester United and Aston Villa played out a spectacular 4-4 draw on matchday ten of the Premier League.

In an absolute rollercoaster of a game, the hosts fought back twice from two goals down to secure a late equalizer deep into stoppage time.

The match began like a nightmare for Carrick's side, as Aston Villa proved clinical and shocked the home team early on.

Alysson finished off a setup by John McGinn to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Manchester United initially looked completely out of sorts, and Nicolas Jackson made it 2-0 for Emery's men with a superb finish. But the "Red Devils" showed character.

Bruno Fernandes took responsibility after a foul on Boubacar Kamara and calmly converted the resulting penalty to pull one back at 1-2. Just before the half-time whistle, Youri Tielemans sent Old Trafford into raptures following a pass from Noussair Mazraoui to make it 2-2.

Aston Villa restore two-goal lead

Anyone expecting United to hold the momentum after the break was quickly proven wrong, as the visitors struck back ruthlessly.

Diogo Dalot conceded a penalty, which McGinn coolly dispatched to restore the lead at 3-2. When Leon Goretzka made it 4-2 for Villa shortly after following good work from Jackson, the game seemed dead and buried for the hosts.

Manchester United score twice in utterly wild stoppage time

However, drama unfolded in the final minutes. In the 91st minute, substitute Joshua Zirkzee reduced the deficit to 3-4 after being set up by Patrick Dorgu, reviving hope inside the stadium.

United threw everything forward – with success: in the sixth minute of injury time (96'), Dorgu fired the ball into the back of the net himself following a pass from Fernandes to spark wild celebrations for the 4-4 equalizer.

Despite the draw, Manchester United sit in 18th place, remaining in the relegation zone. Carrick's job is under more threat than ever.
