Neuer after Bayern's Win at Wanda: "That was total dominance"
The former world-class goalkeeper was completely satisfied with his team's performance. And that, despite several key players being absent.
The omens were not particularly good!
Nevertheless, FC Bayern Munich made a statement on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League away at Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano. The German record champions celebrated a deserved 2-0 victory, also thanks to Austrian international Konrad Laimer.
Eberl Praises the Performance
"It was a world-class performance from a team that tried to put pressure on from the first minute, here away from home," sporting director Max Eberl summarized Bayern's performance.
Bayern not only traveled to Madrid without the still-absent head coach Vincent Kompany. Four important attacking players were also missing: Luis Diaz, Ismael Saibari, Jamal Musiala, and Serge Gnabry.
However, little of that was apparent against the defensively strong Spaniards. Bayern dominated the match for long stretches and repeatedly threatened the opponent's goal.
Decision in the Second Half
"I would say that was total dominance. From the first to the 93rd minute," goalkeeper Manuel Neuer praised his teammates in an interview with "Sky".
The decision came after the half-time break through goals from youngster Lennart Karl (54th minute) and Laimer's hammer (74th minute).
In the end, they left nothing to chance, and with their second victory in the current Champions League season, Bayern are now back on track for the top eight.
"World-Class Level"
Defensive boss Dayot Upamecano also received much praise from Eberl: "Thank God we extended his contract. He has been playing at a world-class level for weeks."
The former Salzburg player has developed into one of the best central defenders in the world at the German record champions.
