"I'm not counting on Willi for the game against Wacker"
Manuel Takacs, coach of the Young Violets and head of the academy, no longer plans with the centre-back for his team for the time being, as he explains in a LAOLA1 interview.
"Willi did really, really well in the Cup against Hartberg," says Takacs. "For example, I'm not counting on him for the game against Wacker Innsbruck."
Das macht dann schon was mit einer Mannschaft, wenn du hinten einen gestandenen Führungsspieler nicht dabei hast, vor allem für eine junge Mannschaft
Key player for the Young Violets
The 29-year-old Vorsager has already played 88 Bundesliga games for Admira. Due to his experience, Austria's management brought him in as a key player for the Young Violets.
The captain has played the full 90 minutes in all LigaZwa games so far. The centre-back also played 114 minutes against Hartberg.
Takacs knows how important Vorsager is for the Young Violets: "For a young team in the 2. Liga, it's very important to have a centre-back at the back who provides support and stability, alongside whom the younger players can then develop."
Vorsager's absence could indeed affect the Young Violets: "It does something to a team when you don't have an experienced leader at the back, especially for a young team," says Takacs.
Toifl could also be called up to the first team
Together with Vorsager, Valentin Toifl forms the central defense for the Young Violets. The 21-year-old is 1.97 m tall and one of Austria's most exciting talents.
Under Stephan Helm, Toifl made brief appearances in two European Cup matches and against Wiener Sport-Club. According to Takacs, Toifl could now also be used more frequently with the professionals under Uhlig. In the Cup match against Hartberg, the centre-back played 56 minutes.
Takacs would therefore have to completely reshuffle the central defense for the Young Violets, but even that is not a problem: "It's all good, if Willi isn't there, someone else will play."
There would also be a replacement for Toifl. The centre-back position could be filled by Jonas Feddersen, Felix Fischer, and Marcel Moswitzer, among others.
Will Ibrahim Buhari be replaced?
In the summer, Austria sought a replacement after not extending Tin Plavotic's contract. They found one in Ibrahim Buhari.
The 25-year-old Nigerian arrived from Elfsborg on a free transfer. Sporting director Tomas Zorn recently stated that he was not planned for build-up play and currently has to play in the wrong position. Buhari's strengths, "tackling prowess and aggressive defending," would be more evident in the right centre-back position.
This is interesting because the majority of Austria's attacks originate from Reinhold Ranftl's right flank, and the centre-back behind him has more responsibilities in build-up play here.
So far, the "Violets'" new signing, despite his market value of one million euros (source: "transfermarkt.at"), has yet to convince. It remains to be seen whether Buhari will be replaced by Vorsager under Uhlig.
Wiesinger with a comeback in the derby?
Austria's defense is as vulnerable as rarely before. With 20 goals conceded in ten games, they have the third-worst defense in the league.
One reason for this is the departure of Tin Plavotic, and another is the injury to Philipp Wiesinger. The latter, according to Takacs, could return to the squad for Sunday's derby against Rapid (from 5 PM in the LIVE ticker >>>).
The 32-year-old has not played a single game for Austria this season. Due to patellar tendon problems, the centre-back was out of action for a long time. However, he is now back in team training.
