Wilhelm Vorsager made his debut for FK Austria Wien's first team on Tuesday evening in the Cup duel against TSV Hartberg.

The 29-year-old was previously captain of the Young Violets and was directly nominated by new head coach Max Uhlig for the first team's starting eleven.

"I didn't expect to be in the starting eleven either, but I'm all the happier and have repaid it reasonably well," Vorsager told "Heute".

The Call Came Saturday

The debutant showed a decent performance and was bid farewell with applause from the stands during his substitution in the 114th minute. However, Vorsager only learned about his appearance at the weekend.

"On Saturday, after it was confirmed with Max Uhlig, he called me. Then things moved quickly. It was clear that I would do it," said the 29-year-old. On Sunday, Vorsager completed his first training session with his new teammates.

His debut for Austria was very special for Vorsager: "I was nervous, it's an honor to play there. But I think I did quite well."

Defeat in penalty shootout

However, the evening will probably not be remembered as particularly positive. (To the match report >>>)

The Viennese took the lead through Johannes Eggestein (25'), but Oliver Lukic (44') equalized before the break.

After 120 minutes, the score remained 1-1. In the penalty shootout, the Viennese were then unlucky, as Valentino Müller failed from the spot against goalkeeper Luka Maric. The Cup journey is thus over for the Violets - and the crisis gains another episode.
