Six Months Late: LASK Targets Desired Player
The transfer was reportedly finalized during the winter transfer window, but due to injuries, the move was still called off. LASK is now making another attempt.
According to information from "Oberösterreichische Nachrichten", everything was already clear in winter. Robert Ljubicic was supposed to move to the 'steel city' of Linz because he received little playing time at AEK Athens.
In December, however, Ljubicic got the chance to prove himself due to injuries to his teammates and delivered. The 27-year-old scored four times in five games and set up three more goals. Following this performance, AEK Athens scuttled the move to LASK.
However, the central midfielder did not get beyond a substitute role for the rest of the season, ending the campaign with 15 appearances (4 goals, 4 assists).
Reunion with Kühbauer
LASK is now reportedly interested again in a move for Didi Kühbauer's desired player. A loan with an option to buy is being discussed.
For Ljubicic and Kühbauer, it would be their third club together. In St. Pölten, the Croatian, who opted against the ÖFB team, made his Bundesliga debut under Kühbauer in 2018.
Kühbauer and Ljubicic met again at Rapid, before the Vienna native moved to Dinamo Zagreb for three million Euros. With the capital club, he became champion twice (2023, 2024).
During his time in the Croatian capital, Ljubicic decided against the ÖFB and for the Croatian national team, for which he has, however, never played.
In 2024, AEK Athens transferred four million Euros to Zagreb for the midfielder's services. In Greece, Ljubicic also crowned himself champion in 2026.
