Confirmed! Red Bull Salzburg signs new goalkeeper
The "Bulls" bring former Austria player Christian Früchtl on board. He will be the number two behind Christian Zawieschitzky.
After numerous rumors, the transfer is now confirmed.
Christian Früchtl will strengthen Red Bull Salzburg. The club announced this on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old joins from Italian top-flight club US Lecce and is set to become the number two for the "Bulls" behind Christian Zawieschitzky. He signs a three-year contract.
The newcomer completed his youth training at FC Bayern. He made one appearance for the senior team. This was followed by a loan spell at 1. FC Nürnberg and a transfer to Wiener Austria. He played 80 times there.
"Will be an absolute reinforcement"
Sporting Director Marus Mann expressed his delight about the new signing: "With Christian Früchtl, we have signed a goalkeeper with excellent training and a lot of experience, who will greatly support and complement our young goalkeeping team."
"Even if he hasn't played as often recently, we know that he is always ready for action and will be an absolute reinforcement for FC Red Bull Salzburg," Mann further explained.
Früchtl: "Not the best memories" of Salzburg
The goalkeeper himself also sees Salzburg as a good next step: "I am very happy that the good discussions led to a positive conclusion and that I am now at FC Red Bull Salzburg."
"As an Austria Wien player, I was here quite often about two years ago and don't have the best memories, because we always lost back then. All the more reason I am happy to have signed here now and to be on the other side," he is quoted by the club.
