New Signing Scores! Salzburg Wins Friendly Against Podolski's Club
A new signing scores the first goal for Salzburg. Other new faces show their skills.
Before Red Bull Salzburg heads to training camp, a friendly match against 14-time Polish champions Gornik Zabrze is still scheduled in Nonntal.
New coach Danny Röhl's team triumphs in this match. Salzburg wins 2-1.
Already in the sixth minute, Vertessen's shot hit the post, saving the visitors from an early deficit.
The Bundesliga club continued to press. Shortly after, Kitano (8') and Veratschnig (11') narrowly missed. The former forced goalkeeper Schulz into a save shortly after (18').
New Signing Scores the Opener
The first goal came in the 23rd minute. New signing Veratschnig tried his luck from outside the box and placed it precisely into the left corner.
Another newcomer, Barry, had the chance to extend the lead (27', 44'). However, he failed to do so, meaning that despite several good opportunities, the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
For Salzburg, all players left the field after 45 minutes, while the Poles made no changes.
Equalizer After Corner
After the break, the Poles started well. In the 54th minute, it was 1-1 as Massimo scored after a corner kick.
Almost immediately, the Mozart city dwellers equalized again. Daghim impressively broke through his opponents. With only one boot, he was unstoppable and laid it off to Konate, who made it 2-1.
The newly substituted goalkeeper Nikola Sarcevic had to prove himself again against Massimo shortly after (69'). But the "Bulls" didn't let up either, as Daghim narrowly missed with a volley (73').
Both teams still had chances in the final phase, but no more goals were scored. Salzburg thus won 2-1 against Lukas Podolski's club.
New Faces Show Their Skills
For the "Bulls", three new faces were on the field in the first half: Barry, Veratschnig, and Boma. Mellberg, who had been struggling with a knee injury for a long time, also played.
After the break, a similar picture emerged. Mazurek and Schmid were among other new players who took to the field. Returnee Daghim, the long-injured Kawamura, and the long-suspended Bischoff were also involved.
