With which goalkeeper will Wolfsberger AC start the new Bundesliga season as number one?

First-choice goalkeeper Nikolas Polster has long been considered a candidate for departure. The 24-year-old has made no secret of wanting to take the next step in his career.

The journey is expected to lead abroad, with the Viennese player being linked to FC Augsburg, AS Saint-Etienne, Celtic Glasgow, and Premier League relegated side Wolverhampton Wanderers, among others.

Riegler: "Not a single official inquiry"

However, the advances from interested clubs have not yet gained momentum, as WAC President Dietmar Riegler explained to "Krone": "There isn't a single official inquiry."

Coach Thomas Silberberger nevertheless encourages his protégé: "It's in the WAC's DNA to develop and sell players – often things like that happen quickly."

WAC aims to bring in a domestic youth goalkeeper as a replacement

Should a transfer still materialize during this transfer period, Lukas Gütlbauer is already ready as a replacement. The Upper Austrian has already guarded the Lavanttalers' goal 14 times in the Bundesliga.

If Polster departs, the 25-year-old is expected to face competition for the number one jersey from a domestic youth goalkeeper: "Should Polster actually still leave, we will look for a young Austrian who will compete with Gütlbauer for the number one spot," says Silberberger.
