Good news: Rapid defender back in team training
The centre-back completes his first sessions with the team after his severe muscle injury and is likely to celebrate a comeback soon.
Good news for SK Rapid: Centre-back Jean Marcelin has rejoined the record champions' team training after a more than ten-month injury break.
The 26-year-old moved to Hütteldorf before the 2025/26 season for a transfer fee of 100,000 Euros and immediately established himself as a regular starter in central defence under coach Peter Stöger.
However, his first season with the Green-Whites came to an abrupt end. On the third matchday of the Bundesliga season in August 2025, Marcelin suffered a severe unassisted injury during the match against SCR Altach. The defender's foot got caught in the turf, and he sustained a serious thigh muscle injury, which meant an early end to his season.
Comeback in Sight for Competitive Season Start
Now there is finally reason for Rapid and Marcelin to celebrate. During the ongoing summer pre-season, the centre-back completed team training for the first time again.
This means the Madagascar international should be fit in time for the start of competitive matches. In just under three weeks, the Hütteldorfer will kick off the 2026/27 season in the UEFA Conference League qualification – with Marcelin as an additional option for the defence.
