Austria Lustenau scrapes into second Cup round

Kremser SC narrowly loses 0-1 to SC Austria Lustenau in the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup.

Austria Lustenau started to dominate play but for a long time barely created any scoring opportunities, apart from a volley by Pius Grabher (7').

The Kremser side were different, registering the best chance of the first half in the 23rd minute. Jan-Sebastian Koppensteiner found himself alone in front of the Lustenau goal at the end of a Kremser counter-attack but was denied by Cup goalkeeper Phillip Böhm.

At the other end, Precious Benjamin only hit the crossbar with a header (38'). Shortly before the break, Krems captain Simon Temper put the ball just over the goal after a free-kick from Andree Neumayer (40').

Benjamin on the third attempt

The second half began with another top chance for Lustenau: Krems goalkeeper Felix Gschossmann missed the cross from the corner, and Benjamin lifted the ball over the last two defenders towards the goal. He was already turning away in celebration, but the ball once again crashed against the crossbar (46').

The visitors from Vorarlberg kept the pressure high and finally rewarded themselves with the lead. After hitting the woodwork twice, Precious Benjamin headed home a cross from Sacha Delaye into the far top corner (63').

Krems' determined final offensive put Lustenau under pressure, but it was not enough for the Lower Austrians to find an equalizer.
