It has now been around four days since Austria had to bid farewell to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Last Thursday, the ÖFB team suffered a 0-3 defeat in their round of 32 clash with Spain. Despite Spain being clear favorites, disappointment over the tournament exit remains high.

On Monday evening, head coach Ralf Rangnick (68) has now also issued a statement via "Instagram".

Gratitude, Positivity, and Optimism

The German opens his message with words of thanks: "After a few days' distance, I simply want to say thank you once again. To my team, to my entire coaching and support staff, to all employees around the team, and of course, to all the fans. To those who travelled the long way, as well as to everyone who supported us from home. That is anything but a given."

Overall, the "football professor" draws a positive conclusion:

"The past weeks have simply brought me great joy. The commitment, cohesion, and the way we played were extraordinary. We had to overcome several obstacles. I was all the more impressed by how each individual made their contribution and always put themselves at the service of the team. Of course, we all would have liked to stay longer. Nevertheless, I believe that we represented Austria well at this World Cup."

However, the focus is now directed towards the future: "Now I look forward to taking the next step with the boys in September. I am firmly convinced that there is still a lot of potential in this team, and that we can achieve a great deal together."
