Former National Team Player Becomes New Voitsberg Manager
The former Bundesliga striker takes on a head coach position in professional football for the first time at second-tier newcomer ASK Voitsberg.
ASK Voitsberg has unveiled its new head coach: Philipp Zulechner takes over the coaching role at the newly promoted side in the ADMIRAL 2. Liga.
"We are very pleased to be able to present Philipp Zulechner, our preferred candidate, as the new head coach," the club wrote on its Instagram channel. "The 36-year-old brings valuable experience from his active playing career, identifies with the club's playing philosophy, and pursues the same values and goals."
For Zulechner, this is his first coaching role in professional football. Most recently, the former striker worked as a coach at fourth-tier ASK Ybbs.
Experience from Bundesliga and National Team
As a player, Zulechner made 76 appearances in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga for SV Grödig, Wiener Austria, and Sturm Graz. He scored 21 goals. In the 2013/14 season, the forward finished third in the Bundesliga top scorer list and received a call-up to the national team from ÖFB head coach Marcel Koller.
In the friendly match against the USA in November 2013, Zulechner made his debut for Austria – however, it remained his only appearance in an ÖFB jersey. In 2018, he capped his career by winning the UNIQA ÖFB-Cup with Sturm Graz.
