Austria Salzburg to Strengthen with Former Bundesliga Player?
The 29-year-old is expected to join training before the first Cup clash.
Austria Salzburg could strike again on the transfer market!
As reported by the "Salzburger Nachrichten", sporting director Roland Kirchler wants to bring versatile player Simon Pirkl to the city of Mozart.
"I've known him since our time together at Wacker Innsbruck. Simon played in the professional ranks for the first time under me as a teenager. We are constantly in contact, and now the opportunity seems to have arisen for us to work together again," he is quoted by the newspaper.
Joining Training Before Cup Opener?
Pirkl's last club was Blau-Weiß Linz. He is currently unattached and is expected to strengthen Austria Salzburg's defense soon. "If everything goes according to plan, he could very well join training before the Cup match," said Kirchler.
The 29-year-old scored six goals and provided 13 assists in 90 Bundesliga games. He has also gained enough experience in the second division with 163 appearances. During this time, he not only played for the Upper Austrian club but also for SV Horn, Austria Lustenau, and Wacker Innsbruck.
Goiginger Also a Topic
The Salzburg side has remained unbeaten in pre-season. They recently drew 1-1 against Opatija. Things will get serious for Schaidler's squad on Saturday. In the first round of the ÖFB Cup, they will face regional league team Grünau.
Before that, they hope for an addition to the offense. Thomas Goiginger is reportedly a target. "We would love to have him here, we'll see if we can make it happen," says the sporting director. He is also currently unattached after a stint at Blau-Weiß.
