The World Cup final between Argentina and Spain (for the match report>>>) continued to generate discussion even after the final whistle. According to the Spanish newspaper "Marca", Argentina's Nicolas Otamendi went directly to Rodri and Aymeric Laporte after the final whistle – and found strong words.

"You've been complaining about the referee all week... you talk too much," the Argentinian centre-back reportedly shouted at the Spanish duo. Otamendi was referring to the discussions surrounding the referee's performances before the final.

Verbal Attack After Final Whistle

Ahead of the final, Laporte had, among other things, addressed the Argentinians' tough approach and emphasised that much would depend on the officiating by referee Slavko Vincic.

After the final whistle, emotions ran high on both sides. While the Spaniards boisterously celebrated their World Cup triumph, a scuffle broke out. Argentina's Leandro Paredes lost his temper, while Otamendi confined himself to a verbal attack.
