The Records Spain Broke on Their World Cup Title Run
Among other things, the longest unbeaten streak across all competitions moves from Italy to the Iberians.
Spain's second World Cup title is still far from challenging record champions Brazil (5 titles).
However, the "Furia Roja" has set new benchmarks in some other aspects.
With 38 games unbeaten, Spain takes over the existing record from Italy, who remained undefeated in 37 matches between October 2018 and September 2021.
Fewest Goals Conceded
There has never been a World Cup winner who conceded only a single goal throughout the entire tournament. Previously, France in 1998, Italy in 2006, and Spain themselves in 2010 each conceded two goals, although they also played one fewer game.
Fittingly, during the tournament, goalkeeper Unai Simón already set the record for the most consecutive World Cup minutes without conceding a goal (for record details>>>).
Youngest Double Title Holder
Lamine Yamal set an individual record, becoming the youngest player at 19 to simultaneously hold both the World and Continental Champion titles. Previously, this was Julian Alvarez at 21 years old. The youngest World and European Champion to hold both titles simultaneously was Yamal's compatriot Cesc Fabregas at 23.
Last but not least, Spain is also the first nation to simultaneously hold the World Cup title for both men and women. In 2023, the Spanish women were crowned World Champions for the first time.
