World Champion Torres: "That Was The Goal Of 47 Million People"
Ferran Torres fires Spain to their second World Cup title after 2010. His goal was the only one in the final against Argentina.
Spain are world champions for the second time, following their 2010 triumph.
The "Red Fury" deservedly won the 2026 World Cup final against defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time. The Iberians are now simultaneously European and World champions, just as they were back then.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the game in the 106th minute, as the Barcelona forward hammered a pass from Nico Williams ruthlessly under the crossbar.
In an initial reaction, the golden goal scorer said: "That was the goal of 47 million people, not mine. Fate was predetermined. Everything was geared towards us winning today. And we did everything we could to contribute."
Vindication After Criticism
Spain were superior in the final, completely neutralizing Argentina's attack, led by superstar Lionel Messi, until the very late stages of extra time.
However, Luis de la Fuente's side lacked attacking power for a long time. After Enzo Fernandez's red card, patience was definitely required. "All finals are difficult," Torres acknowledged. "We just tried to keep playing our football."
