The 32-year-old saw a good first 15 minutes from his team on Sunday. "Then there was a drop in performance that I find hard to explain myself," said Enengl. Especially around the conceded goal in the 34th minute, the basic qualities were missing.
A Different Showing in the Second Half
After the break, Vienna showed a different face; he couldn't fault his team much in the second period. "I can live with the game we showed in the second half, and that's what the people here want to see. If we play our game at maximum intensity, we can hurt any opponent in the league."
Goalscorer Rosenberger underlined his coach's words: "Our expectation is that every team has to measure themselves against us, not us against them. We can definitely say: 'We are Vienna and we want to win every game.'"
"We showed that we are a really cool squad," said Rosenberger – a squad that apparently still needs to find itself. Enengl addressed the major restructuring in the summer: "We were aware that it wouldn't happen overnight and that the process would take time."
Galm Praises His Team
Liefering coach Danny Galm also wanted to take the positive moments from the game. "We had top energy on the field, implemented what we had planned, and deservedly took the lead," said the German.
"Our team caused huge problems for a promotion candidate, a very experienced squad, in a home game in what felt like 40 degrees. That was our goal, and at the same time, we brought our footballing game onto the pitch."
After Vienna's late 2-2 equalizer, however, there was also disappointment over the missed three points. The Salzburgers were a man down for almost the entire second half after Filip Matijasevic's yellow-red card.
Was Liefering Denied a Penalty?
"I haven't seen any footage yet," Galm said about the yellow-red card incident. "For me, it's a situation where both players go for the ball, and it's an unfortunate circumstance. Neither the Vienna player nor our player had any intention to injure."
The reaction to the sending-off was "exactly what I expect from my team. That will make them stronger in the coming weeks and months," said Galm.
A bitter blow for the Salzburgers: In the 73rd minute, Liefering could very well have been awarded a penalty. Jürgen Bauer had struck goalscorer Kenneth Tejiri on the foot in the penalty area. Referee Stefan Ebner's whistle remained silent.
Thus the game remained open, and Vienna managed the comeback. With that, Enengl's squad averted their second consecutive defeat after the 1-4 loss at Austria Salzburg. Liefering had to concede defeat against Hertha Wels in the preliminary round (2:3). Both teams now have four points and are direct table neighbors.
