World Record Attempt as a Highlight
As part of the festive closing ceremony, which concludes the largest National Summer Games in the history of Special Olympics Austria to date, a special highlight will take place.
Special Olympics Ambassador Philipp Jelinek will launch an official world record attempt at the Sport Arena Wien shortly before the official closing ceremony, together with approximately 3,000 athletes, coaches, volunteers, and the audience. The goal? The largest inclusive training session of all time!
Jelinek states: "Lived inclusion and movement connect people. Everyone can participate with us, and on Monday we want to send a strong signal for solidarity. For me, the Special Olympics athletes are not people with special needs, but special people. Because they show you what is all possible."
Heat Led to Cancellations
Due to the enormous heatwave in Austria, the outdoor competitions had to be cancelled. However, thanks to the solidarity within the Special Olympics family, an alternative program was arranged for almost all of these competitions.
For instance, the tennis competitions were moved indoors thanks to a spontaneous cooperation with TennisPoint Wien. Ambassador Alexander Grünwald made it possible to hold the football competition in the hall of the Austria Wien Academy.
