Austrian ski cross racer Christina Födermayr has announced her retirement.

"For the majority of my life, this was all I knew. And for a long time, I thought there would always be more," Födermayr explained via Instagram.

"But life has a way of teaching you that you can give everything you have, and yet you cannot control everything around you. I have given this sport everything that was in my hands to give."

Plagued by injuries

Födermayr was certainly plagued by injuries in recent years. This was also the case in December 2023 in Arosa, when she secured her only World Cup podium as second place, but suffered a partial rupture of the posterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament in her left knee during a fall. It was not the only severe injury during her career.

Nevertheless, she made it to the Olympics twice, finishing 22nd in Beijing in 2022 and in Livigno in 2026.

She had already proven her talent in 2021 when she became Junior World Champion with the Austrian ski cross team, and in 2022 she followed up with Junior World Championship bronze in the individual ski cross.

"Thank you, Skiing!"

"But now when I look back... I don't want to think about what could have been. I want to think about what was. The places. The people. The struggles. The highs and lows. The moments I thought I would never come back from. And the moments that were worth every single one of them. What a life. And God... it was beautiful. Thank you, Skiing!"
