Following the Alpine Ski World Cup opener in Sölden, planning for the coming year is already underway. A significant change could be on the horizon.

Organizers and the International Ski Federation (FIS) are reportedly planning an expansion from two to four races. These are to be spread across two consecutive weekends.

However, the project is still in the planning stages and not yet confirmed.

Philipp Falkner, junior manager and authorized signatory of Bergbahnen Sölden, expressed confidence. "We have absolutely proven that we are fit for this," Falkner said on "Tirol heute".

Weather Risk "Calculable"

The early World Cup opener is frequently criticized. Next year, the giant slaloms are scheduled to take place a week later, on October 30th and 31st.

The two additional races are planned for the following weekend. Falkner sees no problem with this. Even the sometimes warm autumn weeks are a "calculable risk".

The FIS has not yet committed to an expansion of the Sölden weekend.

President Alexander Ospelt noted: "But that is a puzzle with 20,000 pieces. Many other things also play a role."
