Para skier Veronika Aigner will not compete in the World Cup next season. The 23-year-old is foregoing participation due to the injury of her guide – her sister Elisabeth.

Elisabeth Aigner must take an extended break due to a knee injury.

Four-time Cortina Paralympic Gold Medalist

At the Paralympic Winter Games in Milano/Cortina 2026, Aigner, together with her stand-in guides Lilly Sammer & Eric Digruber, collected a total of five medals – four of them gold, one silver.

Despite recent successes, the Paralympic champion decided against a new guide and wants to make a fresh start with her sister.

Aigner will therefore also forego the World Championships taking place in Tignes, France, in March 2027.

"It makes no sense to me"

"To compete with a different guide for a year now and then switch back to Lisi makes no sense to me. I'd rather stay mentally with my sister and focus on us both coming back – as an even stronger team," explains Veronika Aigner.

As soon as rehabilitation allows, the two want to train together on snow again to be ready for next year.

Veronika and Elisabeth Aigner have been considered one of the most successful duos in para skiing for years. Together, the two Lower Austrians celebrated eleven World Cup victories last season. At the 2022 Paralympic Games in Beijing, the sisters won two gold medals for Austria.
