After Spate of Injuries: FIS Implements New Rules
Shortly before the start of the season, the International Ski Federation has tightened its regulations. There are changes, especially concerning ski boots.
The FIS has decided to regulate the ski equipment of athletes more strictly. This is intended to reduce the number of injuries.
At its autumn meeting in Geneva, the FIS adopted new and clearer regulations for ski boots. This was reported by "TT". The shin guard, which has been controversial in recent years, is now definitively banned. Softer carbon models were still permitted last season.
"A Step in the Right Direction"
The ski boot may now only have a certain maximum height. This is intended to reduce the forces acting on the athletes. It is hoped that falls and ligament tears will occur less frequently. Ö
SV Alpine Director Christian Mitter is positive about the innovations: "This is very desirable and for us a step in the right direction."
Carbon protectors had also already been worn by junior athletes. The new regulations are intended to make ski racing less aggressive. The length of women's skis has also been limited to a maximum.
