Chronic illness forces speed specialist to end career
The Swiss calls it quits at 26.
Before winter begins, Swiss skier Christophe Torrent has to end his career.
The 26-year-old suffers from a chronic inflammatory rheumatic disease. This was reported by "Krone".
"With a touch of melancholy, but also with the common sense to finally listen to Grandma Agnes, who always told me to 'live a normal life', I have decided to end my skiing career," the speed specialist writes on Instagram.
Four World Cup Starts
Last winter, Torrent had to end the season as early as February. After complaining of back problems, he was diagnosed with Morbus Bechterew (Ankylosing Spondylitis). This condition can be treated, but not cured.
The 26-year-old competed four times in a World Cup downhill, first in 2024 in Kitzbühel. However, he did not finish higher than 33rd place in Crans Montana in 2025.
