The Linzers secured a victory in their final friendly match against the German second division relegated team. A new signing scored, and a comeback was also celebrated.
A successful final test for LASK before things get serious again for the Upper Austrians in the Cup!
The Linzers secured a 2-0 victory against relegated German second-division side Fortuna Düsseldorf in front of 5,032 fans at their season opening.
After 19 minutes, the first chance to take the lead arose, but Danek and Lang were denied by the opposing goalkeeper. Jörgensen faced a similar fate just one minute later, also failing to get the ball into the net.
LASK created more opportunities throughout the game, but like Fortuna through Steven van der Sloot, they couldn't convert any of them, so the teams went into halftime with a 0-0 score.
New Signing Scores
After this, the home team became more dangerous. The reward followed in the 54th minute when Jørgensen scored from a corner to make it 1-0. New signing Danek sealed the win with a 2-0 goal, putting the result beyond doubt.
In addition to the victory, the Bundesliga club also celebrated the comeback of Moses Usor (70').
Kühbauer: "Could have scored one or two more goals"
Head coach Didi Kühbauer expressed satisfaction after the match but remained self-critical: "The game was alright. If we had been more precise in the final third, we might have scored one or two more goals. It was important that Moses Usor and Andres Andrade are back. We are slowly becoming the team we will need during the season," he was quoted by the club.
The Lineup: Jungwirth – Bello (70' Dibango), Freckleton (83' Ibrahim), Tornich (63' Andrade), Mbuyamba, Jörgensen – Horvath (C) (83' Ilk), Ivkovic (45' Verhaeghe), Danek – Lang (70' Usor), Harakate (83' Flecker)
