Is a Row with Urs Lehmann to Blame for Waldner's Resignation?
A dispute with Urs Lehmann is said to be responsible for Markus Waldner's departure. Has Hannes Trinkl had enough too?
A few weeks before the start of the new Ski World Cup season, the FIS has lost Markus Waldner, the Men's Ski Race Director.
The South Tyrolean informed the FIS of his resignation this week.
How Waldner explained his departure >>>
Waldner had held his position for a full twelve years. Officially, he resigned due to increasing pressure, but behind the scenes, another reason is being rumoured.
Dispute with Urs Lehmann?
According to information from "Krone", a clash with FIS Secretary General Urs Lehmann is said to have been the real reason for Waldner's resignation.
The former Swiss ski boss is said to have actively restricted Waldner's responsibilities; among other things, the South Tyrolean, as well as Women's Race Director Peter Gerdol, was not invited to the meetings at the FIS conference in Geneva when it came to calendar planning and product development – which Waldner is said to have not liked at all.
Is Hannes Trinkl also quitting?
Intriguingly: The FIS's problem of being without a race director so shortly before the start of the season could possibly soon become even bigger.
According to "Krone", it is rumoured that FIS Speed Race Director Hannes Trinkl is also considering a departure in light of the developments. The Austrian downhill world champion from 2001 is responsible for the speed courses in the men's races.
