Sinja Kraus exits the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing in the round of 16, losing to Czech Nikola Bartunkova with a score of 0:6, 6:4, 3:6.

In the first set, the ÖTV player had great difficulties against Bartunkova. The Czech player repeatedly challenged Kraus with powerful groundstrokes. Kraus grew more impatient from game to game, attempting to go for winners early with risky shots.

The 20-year-old Czech capitalized immediately on all three of her break points, concluding the first set 6:0 after just 31 minutes.

Turnaround in the Second Set

After this shock, Kraus found her rhythm, and Bartunkova struggled to consistently execute her dominant game. In the second set, the Viennese player had only one break point, which she coolly converted to take a 2:1 lead. She managed this advantage, leveling the match with a 6:4 set win.

The third set began closely. At 2:3, the Viennese player briefly faltered with her strong forehand, leading to an unforced error that put her opponent ahead. Bartunkova remained clinical in her conversion of chances and secured the break. The Czech player held onto her lead and converted her first match point for a 3:6 victory.

Nevertheless, Kraus can look back on a successful tournament. For the first time in her career, she secured victories at a WTA 1000 event. By reaching the round of 16, she also improves to 75th in the WTA world rankings, her highest career ranking to date.
