Match Turned Around! Grabher Reaches Round of 16 in Tolentino
The Austrian drops the first set against a local favorite but ultimately prevails.
Julia Grabher reaches the round of 16 of the WTA 125K tournament in Tolentino.
The world number 111 defeats Italy's Jennifer Ruggeri (WTA-231.) 4:6, 7:5, 6:3.
The first set started ideally for Grabher. She secured an early break for a 2:1 lead and subsequently extended it to 3:1. However, the lead did not last long. Ruggeri won two games and leveled the score.
Subsequently, she continued to dictate play. In the final game, Grabher failed to hold her serve, allowing her opponent to win 6:4.
Tight Second Set
The second set also began with a break from Grabher. Again, she could not hold her lead, immediately conceding a rebreak.
The match remained evenly matched for a long time. Towards the end of the second set, Grabher secured another break and subsequently forced a decider.
Grabher Dominates Decider
The Austrian was now always one step ahead of her opponent. She turned the match around and prevailed 4:6, 7:5, 6:3 after 2 hours and 17 minutes.
In the round of 16, she will face Alice Tubello from France.
