Junior Grand Slam: Pircher Reaches Wimbledon Second Round
The 16-year-old Tyrolean manages to advance to the second round of the Wimbledon junior tournament after being a set down.
Anna Pircher has advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon junior tournament.
The 16-year-old Tyrolean made a comeback against Ukrainian Sofia Bielinska after being a set down, winning 2:6, 7:5, 6:1.
Pircher had to accept a 2:6 in the first set but came back with a 7:5 in the second. In the deciding set, the ÖTV talent showed her class, quickly going up 3:1 and not dropping a single game afterwards.
Pircher's First Appearance at a Junior Grand Slam
In the second round, the 16-year-old will face the winner of the match between Mika Stojsavljevic (GBR) and Welles Newman (USA).
This is the Tyrolean's first appearance at a Junior Grand Slam. In the qualifiers, she defeated Marianne Angel and Mailuodi Lei.
Pircher is ranked 903rd in the WTA rankings.
