Serena Williams injured on comeback: "Not ready"
The 44-year-old tennis superstar recently celebrated her singles comeback at Wimbledon. However, the 'Sister Act' in doubles has been cancelled.
Serena Williams' doubles comeback alongside her sister Venus has been cancelled.
"It breaks my heart to have to withdraw from the doubles," Serena Williams announced via Instagram.
The return to competition is a gift, and the opportunity to play alongside her sister again means everything to her, wrote the 44-year-old.
"I did everything I could, but unfortunately..."
"I did everything I could, but unfortunately my knee is simply not ready for competition yet."
According to her own statements, the 23-time Grand Slam tournament winner sustained the injury during her first singles match in almost four years, which she lost in three sets against Australia's Maya Joint at Wimbledon.
